Abstract (up to 300 words to describe your proposal): The English Wikipedia receives between 750 and 1,400 new articles every day. Up to 75% of them are not suitable for immediate publication, of which around 50% or more are totally inappropriate for an encyclopedia. These include spam, submissions by organised groups of paid editors, articles with a Conflict of Interest, Copyright violations, hoaxes, vandalism, and libelous attack pages. To sort and tag these pages according to various criteria for deletion, or to assist the authors of genuine articles, we use Page Curation tools with a purpose-designed live feed of the new articles that arrive. Presented in an attractive user interface, these solutions were developed by the WMF in collaboration with a team of concerned editors from the English Wikipedia. This workshop presentation shows how the system works and how it could be adopted as a valuable resource for Wikipedias of all languages. The presentation has a focus on practical work directed both to acquiring a specific skill and doing its specific task; no technical knowledge is needed.

Le Wikipédia anglais croît par entre 750 et 1 400 nouveaux articles tous les jours. Jusqu'à 75% d'entre eux ne conviennent pas pour une publication immédiate, dont environ 50% ou plus sont totalement inappropriés pour une encyclopédie. Ceux-ci comprenent la promotion commerciale, les soumissions par des groupes organisés d'éditeurs payés à but promotionel, des articles avec un Conflit d'Intérêt, des violations de droits d'auteur, des canulars, des vandalismes, et des pages d'attaque diffamatoire. Afin de trier et étiqueter ces pages en fonction de divers critères de suppression, ou pour aider les auteurs d'articles authentiques, nous utilisons des outils de ciblage de page avec une alimentation en direct conçue spécialement pour les nouveaux articles qui arrivent. Présenté dans une interface utilisateur attrayante, ces solutions ont été développées par le WMF en collaboration avec une équipe d'éditeurs concernés de la Wikipédia en anglais. La présentation de cet atelier montre comment fonctionne le système et comment il pourrait être adopté comme une ressource précieuse pour Wikipedias de toutes les langues. La présentation met l'accent sur le travail pratique; aucune connaissance technique n'est nécessaire.

What will attendees take away from this session?: Attendees will will learn how to effectively recognise unwanted new content, i.e. spam/paid editing/COI, Copyright violations (COPYVIO), attack pages, hoaxes, plain but subtle vandalism. They will also learn how to provide simple, useful help and tips to bona fidae creators of their first new article but who are not getting it quite right enough for immediate publication. They will learn how to apply this knowledge to the use of the Page Curation tool set.

Les participants apprendront à mieux reconnaître les nouveaux contenus indésirables, c'est-à-dire le spam / l'édition payée / COI, les violations des droits d'auteur (COPYVIO), les pages d'attaque diffamatoire, les canulars, le vandalisme simple mais subtil. Ils apprendront également comment offrir des conseils simples et utiles aux créateurs de bon foi pour leur premier nouvel article, mais qui ne le sont pas assez bon pour une publication immédiate. Ils apprendront comment appliquer ces connaissances à l'utilisation de l'ensemble d'outils 'Triage' disponibles à ces buts.

For workshops and discussions, what level is the intended audience?: All who are doing, or intending to do article quality maintenance tasks. No technical knowledge required.; Tous ceux qui font, ou ont l'intention de faire des tâches concernant la qualité des nouveaux articles. La connaissance technique n'est pas nécessaire.

Length of session: 55 minutes - 50% for PowerPoint/tutorial; 50% for live, real time Curation session.

Will you attend Wikimania if your submission is not accepted?: Yes, but a scholarship would be required.

Slides or further information (optional): Handouts: xeroxed copies of the NPP tutorial in English and French. PowerPoint of the tutorial.

Special requests: A projection screen will be needed for a live, real time Page Curation session on Internet, and PowerPoint. Preferably a classroom space suitable for laptops, or chairs with work surfaces.
