Abstract (up to 300 words to describe your proposal)

In this workshop, we'll explore how to build new custom training modules that can be accessed through the Programs & Events Dashboard. The Support & Safety team has been using this as the basis for their online harassement and 'keeping events safe' trainings; the same system is open for anyone to build upon.

Wiki Education Foundation has been using training modules for new editors on dashboard.wikiedu.org since the beginning of 2016, and feedback about the user experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Now it's possible to create — and translate — new training modules by setting up all the content on Meta. Bring a topic that you want to create a training module for, and you can get started putting together a custom training module of your own to help newbies dive in quickly and effectively!

What can you do with this training system?

  • Create a training module with all the content on-wiki, one page per slide
  • Use text, images and basic formatting
  • Add quiz questions / knowledge checks
  • Translate training modules and see the translated version on Programs & Events Dashboard

Eventually, you'll also be able to:

  • See whether an editor completed a given training module
  • Include specific training modules in a Programs & Events Dashboard program
  • Easily collect feedback about your training module
