Background
See also our Grant Proposal for the Wikimedia Conference 2016 (+2017) and the concept of the Program and Engagement Coordination
The Wikimedia Foundation and Wikimedia Deutschland jointly agreed on WMDE being the host to organize and facilitate the conferences in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Starting in 2015, the conference can be organized with a long-term perspective, specific goals and with proper involvement of all affected parties. For the first time, Wikimedia Deutschland hired a Program & Engagement Coordinator (PEC) whose primary assignment is to support the program development and liaise with the participants and speakers throughout the year. The PEC creates opportunities at subsequent conferences, like Wikimania, in order to move forward with plans, activities, learnings and conversations.

9:15 | Short introduction by Cornelius | ||
9:30–11:00 | Facilitation: Kacie Harold (WMF) In this session, we will discuss how to balance the demand for funding for regional, thematic and national conferences with the limited annual budget that we have for FY 17-18. The goal of the session is to gather input from conference organizers about how to prioritize funding decisions in the coming year. In the second half of the session, we will identify common challenges that conference organizers face when planning events and share ideas about what resources and support would help event organizers overcome these challenges.
UPDATE: Please add your ideas to the notes from the session. |
Facilitation: Greg Varnum (WMF) Learn about the upcoming changes being made to the Wikimedia Foundation Communications Department's committee based activities based on input collected from volunteers. Also an opportunity to provide input on the next steps and contribute your ideas for future activities. |

11:00–13:00 | Lunch | ||
13:00–14:30 | Facilitation: Veronika Krämer & Raimund Liebert We as Volunteer Supporters support community projects and needs in many ways. But have you ever wondered what would happen without this support? In this session, we take a closer look at the core roles of Volunteer Support and share approaches on how to shape a Volunteer Support that really matters. |
Facilitation: Dimitar Dimitrov At the beginning of this year 20 European chapters, user-groups and communities contacted their national Ministries to start a conversation on the current EU copyright reform. This was a phenomenal geographic coverage that beats the one of campaigns ran by organisations like Greenpeace and Amnesty International. In several countries the letters sent were followed-up by further meetings between volunteers and government officials. As the Member States governments are now starting to draft compromises in order to find a common position on the EU copyright reform, it is time to contact them again and follow-up with another letter proposing possible additions to the text. In parallel, it is also time to contact the members of the European Parliament's Legal Affairs committee, who will be voting on the copyright reform on 10 October. Together we will:

15:00–16:30 | Facilitation: Frans Grijzenhout (WMNL) and Tim Moritz Hector (WMDE) Being a board member in a non-profit-organisation can be a challenge - and this goes for the Wikimedia affiliate organisations as well. Therefore we started an annual board member training focused on organisational development, governance and volunteer work. Target group are recently elected affiliate board members. These trainings are highly valuated by the attendees and all the learning materials are published on meta for further use with board members all over the movement. The central question during this session is: what kind of support do board members need and would like to receive. We will address three issues:
